Things that make you go Hmmm ....

Have you ever heard of the “Darwinian Awards”? Things that people do, or should I say have done (past tense) that effectively takes them out of the gene pool. Well sometimes when we’re on adventures we find ourselves with an eye to the open road ahead and a brain that’s in neutral. Although we may not have received a nomination for an award it doesn’t mean that we haven’t in some way paid a consequence. Some lessons learned may or may not include the following. (Bare in mind to the best of our knowledge there is no photographic evidence to support these alleged events)
1. If you see a concrete door laying in the middle of a fenced in area with barb wire and a sign which alludes to the fact that this is a US government facility and the use of deadly force is authorized … immediately put the gear shift into reverse and back away as quickly as it is safe to do so.
2. When in the Aloha state (or anywhere where there is a large body of water and even large waves), never, I repeat, never turn your back on said body of water.
3. When you are in the desert and it begins to rain that light and gentle rain, remember the phrase “Flash Floods”.
4. When in Vegas and the next hotel is just over there, remember in the hot desert air signs, hotels etc. appear closer than they actually are. That sign that is “right” there is really 75 feet tall and over a kilometer away.
5. When in a hot or tropical climate and it’s a “hot one”, remember going bare foot could result in serious injury, especially when leaving footprints in the asphalt.
