My Way to Health – 8 Week Program

Week 1 – Dave – 6’4” 295 lbs.

As of last night, I have embarked on yet another adventure with life altering consequences for the future. When I was in my 20’s, 30’s and 40’s I could eat what I wanted, when I wanted because I was still physically active in sports. As I aged, Mr. Metabolism and I had a falling out and the sucker deserted me. I now find myself in the later Boomer years, with excess weight issues and the corresponding health problems associated with it.

In Alberta, the Primary Care Network has an 8 week course called My Way to Health which is available through a referral from your doctor or directly through Red Deer PCN – Red Deer Primary Care Network.

Week 1 – Was an introduction to the basic concepts of

1. Being mindful of your habits (e.g. eating while watching TV)

2. Plan to work towards 30 minutes of exercise 5 – 7 days a week

3. Plan to begin food journaling (Sometimes you’re not aware of your portion size)

Remember, you’re starting your journey to a healthy lifestyle change not loose weight, because if you loose something you’ll do whatever you can to find it again.
